“Voluntary benefits” are insurance policies that help protect you and your family from the costs associated with illnesses, injuries, and loss of life. They are offered a la carte—so you may choose only the policies you want and can afford. Your premiums are deducted automatically from your paycheck or bank account. Coverage is portable, so you can keep it if you change jobs or retire.

Under these policies, Washington National pays benefits in cash directly to you or someone you designate, so you can more easily pay for medical bills, household expenses and other costs. A big help if a medical problem or accident causes lost time at work, or if you have a high deductible health plan.

You will soon have the opportunity to learn about your voluntary benefit options. Robert Weymouth, your Washington National representative, will be contacting each Member business to speak with you and answer your questions.

Here are some of the benefits offered through the Washington National “Chamber” initiative:

  • Normally, a business has to enroll at least 3 employees to qualify for Group Benefits. This is often a problem if the business has less than 3 employees or does not have enough employees that wish to enroll. Under the Chamber Plan, only 3 employees need be enrolled from the whole Chamber membership to qualify for Group Benefits.
  • Group plans often require “payroll deduction” as the payment mode, when employees are paying part or all of the premiums. This involves additional administrative work for the Employer, who may decide not to offer the plans at all. Under the Chamber plan, an employee (or the Owner buying their own plan) may pay with automatic withdrawal from their checking or savings account, thus eliminating any Employer administration requirements.
  • Individual Cancer plans are priced using age bracket rating. For example, a 60 year old would often pay 4 – 5 times the rate of a 20 year old. Under the Chamber Plan, all Applicants will be rated at the lowest adult rate.
  • Chamber Members will receive a 9 -15% rate reduction for Group Accident and Group Critical Illness Plans.
  • Frankly, Supplemental health benefits (from any Carrier) are worthless, if you have to jump through hoops to file a claim and receive your cash benefits. That is why all Policy holders will have access to a Washington National Claim’s Expert in Hallowell, ME to assist in the Claims process.

If you have any questions or wish to schedule an appointment to discuss the new Chamber Plans, please contact Rob Weymouth directly.
