Plymouth is another of Sebasticook Valley’s quiet bedroom communities. Three landmark buildings at its center are the focus of community business, gatherings and commerce.

The Plymouth General Store serves today much as it did in the 1800s offering goods and services as well as the exchange for community news. A pleasant stop for travelers, it is a convenience for local residents. At its side is the former Plymouth Grange Hall where traditional, and occasionally spirited, town meetings are held to conduct town business affairs. The hall also serves as a community meeting hall for many community and family events. On the northerly side of the general store, the town hall houses both the office of the town clerk and selectmen and the U.S. Post Office.

Two ponds within the town limits offer fishing and boating as well as lakeside homes for seasonal and full time residents. Plymouth Pond is a landmark on the Moosehead Trail, route 7, connecting inland Maine with the coast while Gray Pond, also know as Round Pond, is another popular spot for vacationers and fishermen.

No longer a farming community the town is home to dozens of horses as many of today’s residents turn to horseback riding, showing and training as a favorite pastime. The many discontinued roads in town offer opportunity for riding, bicycling and hiking as a relaxing pastime, residents say. A favorite and challenging trip for some is the “Tour de Rutland,” a grueling 15-mile trek boasting numerous wildlife sightings, wading, fishing and picnicking sites along the way__ another facet to the appeal of Plymouth as a sleepy bedroom community.
